Every successful photoshoot starts with a well-thought-out plan. In this version, I’ve opted for a shiny satin fabric instead of the classic emerald green backdrop, creating a futuristic vibe reminiscent of the metaverse. The flash allowed me to enhance this atmosphere. I’ve used a roulette as a casino prop, substituting traditional chips with crypto coins. The message highlights the high-risk, volatile side of the crypto market while simultaneously portraying myself as “The Altcoin,” a photographer searching for value by creating unique, unconventional concepts as an alternative to mainstream, obsolete photography.
Metaphorical Poker Room
In this casino-inspired photoshoot version, I’ve created the setting for an underground poker room. The backdrop is the classic emerald green, reminiscent of casino tables. The poker table represents a stage where risk and reward are the cards that industry professionals, such as artists and dancers, must face. Taking the concept further, there’s space for a strip poker session. This is a visual metaphor for stripping away facades, revealing the authentic essence of artistic expression.
Location Selection
Having the right location and settings in mind is crucial to bring your photo concept to life:
- Real Casino: If you have access, a real casino will provide everything you need with its rich and vibrant colors and textures.
- Bar: The right stylish bar can be a great alternative.
- Studio: You can recreate a casino setting in a studio, as I did, using creativity. This will likely give you more control over every detail you want to include in your narrative.
Settings
Here are some choices I’ve made to set up the mood:
- Contrasting Lights: Thanks to the off-camera flash, I’ve set up the lighting in a way that emphasizes shadows and highlights, creating a theatrical, high-risk mood.
- Shiny Satin Fabric: This has been used as a backdrop to create a futuristic touch in the crypto art casino version.
- Emerald Green Backdrop: To clearly evoke the casino environment, I’ve used an emerald green backdrop in the poker room version.
