Our journey this time takes us to Isla Ibiza, often referred to as the stunning “White Island” in the Mediterranean. Allow me to share my insights from this past summer when I flew into Ibiza in early September. Let’s explore the balmy beauty of this Balearic island located off the eastern coast of the Iberian Peninsula. As a photographer, I can confidently say that Ibiza offers much more than its globally celebrated nightlife.
Ibiza in September
As mentioned in the introduction, Ibiza is well-known for its pulsating beats and epic parties. However, if you have a curious spirit or perhaps an eye for photography like me, you might want to venture further. So, lets start my story from the moment i touched down in Ibiza Town (known as Eivissa in Catalan). After collecting my luggage, I rented a convertible and headed straight to San Antonio, my base for this visit. Where I decided to stay was perfect for achieving the right balance between the coastal scenery and the lively atmosphere.
Exploring the Calas
Ibiza’s nickname is the “White Island”, not because its beaches, but due to the white-washed traditional houses. Instead, the famous “Calas” are small, hidden coves with crystal-clear waters that are sometimes inaccessible by land. This is were the rented convertible came in handy. It was a game changer because I could explore the island at my own pace, capturing the stunning coastline views. There are some famous photo spots like Cala d’Hort and the view of Es Vedra. But I was on a mission to find that unique view while driving along the winding roads on the cliffs.
Cala Dreams is not just about the year-round travel desires; it also narrates the story of these secluded Calas. It’s a reminder that Ibiza’s beauty extends far beyond its renowned party scene, offering an escape from the everyday in both scenarios.
Glorious Vistas
Es Vedra is a small rocky island that emerges from the sea along Ibiza’s southwestern coast. This spot is quite popular for photography. You’ll frequently recognize it in online content and social media posts dedicated to this beautiful island. Nevertheless, I strongly suggest including a visit to Es Vedra in your itinerary. It can provide a splendid backdrop for portrait photography during sunset. The photo above was taken on a hazy day, creating an enigmatic and mystical view of the horizon.
Best Time to Visit Ibiza
A common query among individuals contemplating a visit to Ibiza revolves around the ideal time to plan their stay. The answer to this question largely depends on your preferences. If you enjoy nightlife in a more relaxed vibe and wish to explore the island, early September, when I had the pleasure of visiting, presents itself as an excellent recommendation. This period falls just after the peak tourist season.
Regarding the weather, it remains warm during this period. Although it can be a tad balmy and humid at times, the overall conditions are highly conducive to an enjoyable beach vacation.
Beyond the Party Scene
Ibiza is not only a party destination; I see it as a place with a profound Mediterranean charm. You can use my experiences as inspiration for your next visit to the island: pack your camera, rent a convertible, and prepare for days filled with music and the magic of Isla Ibiza.
